I was wondering what a blog is, so I did a web search and came to this free blog site. I had no particular topic in mind,
but when I saw the guitar page design, I decided to write about guitars.
Being a baby boomer, I fell in love with guitar music during the 1960s. Around 1968, I borrowed a friend's Stratocaster, and
started playing. I learned a few chords and a few chops, but I had to give the guitar back to my friend. I learned how to
play 'Norwegian Wood' pretty good.
I didn't play much for the next 30 years.
I never bought a guitar of my own until 1999. Surprisingly, when I picked it up, I could still play 'Norwegian Wood'. This
encouraged me, so I bought a few books - mainly classical guitar. I studied the books, and was encouraged by the fact that
I could read music - a skill learned in grades 5-7. I took lessons for two years from a Jazz guy at Austin School of Music.
I got bored with him and took some lessons from a local recording artist. He taught me some country blues. I took a few more
lessons from another local recording artist. She was really hot.
I play for few hours every day. Now I have:
A Martin 00CXA15 acoustic vintage 2000
A Taylor 714ce acoustic vintage 2003
A Gibson Houndog Dobro
A Greco semi-hollow electric vintage 1980
A Fender Stratocaster, which I made several modifications to, including 'Noiseless' pickups.
A Martin baby for travel
I keep the Martin baby at work, so I can play during breaks.
What is your life experience with guitars?
